This Inauguration Day... Be a Bubble

This inauguration day and beyond, may you be a bubble. Odd sounding advice? Perhaps... but here's why this may be exactly the practice you needed.

After getting the kids nestled cozily in their beds, I decided to run myself a hot bath. I've found this act to be helpful when feeling stressed or needing to simply clear my head. The water seems to be like a cleanse for my busy mind... washing my spirit clean to be receptive of intuitive guidance.

My typical ritual includes sprinkling some essential oils into a handful of Epsom salt. This night I sighed with the realization that we were out of my energy cleansing salts and I surrendered to some soothing lavender bubble bath instead. I chuckled as I dumped a generous portion of the bubbles I'd only been using for our kids into the running water. "Who says bubbles are just for children!?" I thought to myself.

I melted low into the warmth as the water rose all around me. I was immediately struck by how incredibly soothing the feel of these bubbles were against my bare skin. The sensory goodness upon my skin was paired with the gentle audible fuzziness of bubbles multiplying and popping in the water that poured from the faucet.

Person relaxing in a bubble bath, legs stretched out, hands and body covered in bubbles.

I'd put in more than I thought! Just as I'd done in childhood, I began cloaking my body in bubbles as I stretched, looking closer at the tiny bubbles that made up my garment of white fluff. Each one was tiny, yet they came together to bring me comfort and peace. These feelings were especially appreciated this night before inauguration day, when I could feel the collective vibrating in a sense of uncertainty and anxiousness over what was to come.

And there, in the stillness of the water, the guidance came.

I was to become a bubble.

Sure, this may sound a bit crazy on the surface, but dive deeper with me.

Let's be honest, the bath water contains a lot of filth. We know our government is far from pure. Big corporations and pharma are buying political decisions. Dishonesty and corruption has placed the president in the White House, ready to make decisions fueled by narcissism and greed. But we don't have to allow ourselves to sink to the depths of this dirty water...

Instead we can be a bubble.

Drawn into this unique meditation, I observed how even the tiniest bubbles appeared to be illuminated. Though only a single candle light was brightening the room, the bubbles reflected this light beautifully. Not only did they reflect it, they amplified the beauty by sharing a rainbow of colors instead of just one. We, too, hold the power to reflect and amplify the light. Rather than buying into the anger, disgust, and fear, we can understand the value of rising above and placing our focus on what we wish to reflect instead.

There are going to be a slew of efforts to derail the good. From news stories that keep us feeling fearful, to harmful intentions toward our sisters and brothers and divisive posts pushed to the top of social media algorithms, it is more important than ever to rise above.

The most special thing about a bubble? It's rare to see a bubble floating alone. They stick together and move individually yet as one. While some may pop and disappear, others choose to expand and grow, gathering more and more bubbles around them in a collection of pure joy and goodness.

At their core, isn't that exactly what bubbles invoke? A bubble is a visual representation of joy. In a child's eye, to create or chase bubbles is to be playful and alive. Nothing combats the darkness more thoroughly than joyfulness and love!

For as Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."

I called to mind the energy protection mechanism I'd discovered when first recognizing my spiritual abilities and energy sensitivities. You can find more on this technique and more in my book Empaths at the Edge, but the basic premise is this: you can protect your energetic body by visualizing a bubble surrounding you. This bubble is translucent and creates an imagery for your energy field. You can reach outward, extending love and high-vibrational support to others. Yet if anyone directs negativity toward you, says hurtful things, or attempts to unload their burdens and wounds onto you, they simply bounce right off.

Feel your feels, most certainly. But amidst the chaos and pain that is likely to ensue... remember that you have the power to focus your attention on the good. On becoming a bubble.

For even when I drained that dirty bathwater, guess what remained!

A cluster of vibrant, joyful, radiant bubbles.

Love & Peace,

Ashley Kay
